Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-05-19
ATV Ref(“we”, “us”) is a static reference site about ATV, UTV, and OHV laws by US state. This policy explains what we do — and do not — collect, how cookies are used on this site (including by Google AdSense and other third-party ad partners), and the rights you have under GDPR and CCPA.
What we collect directly
We do not require accounts, ask for email addresses, host comment forms, or maintain mailing lists. We do not collect names, addresses, phone numbers, payment data, or government identifiers on the atlas pages.
If you contact us directly by email, we receive the email address you send from and the contents of the message. Those messages are kept only as long as needed to answer the question or apply the correction, then deleted.
Server access logs
Like virtually every site on the internet, our hosting provider records standard HTTP access logs — IP address, user-agent, requested URL, referrer, timestamp. These logs are used for security, abuse prevention, and troubleshooting, and are retained for a short period (typically 30 days) before rotation.
First-party cookies
The site itself sets no first-party tracking cookies. The only first-party browser storage we use is localStorage.theme, which records your dark / light mode preference so the theme persists between visits. This value never leaves your device.
Analytics
We may use privacy-conscious aggregate analytics — page-view counts, referrer source, country-level geography — to understand which atlas pages are most useful. No individual visitor is identified. Where the analytics provider sets a cookie, that cookie is described in the provider’s own privacy policy.
Third-party advertising
When display advertising is enabled on this site, we use Google AdSense and may use other third-party ad-network vendors. These vendors use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this and other websites.
Google’s use of advertising cookies — including (where applicable) the DoubleClick DART cookie — enables Google and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visits to our site and / or other sites on the Internet. The categories Google and its partners may use include broad demographic information, interests-based segments, and contextual signals from the page being viewed.
Users may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. Users may also opt out of certain third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting aboutads.info/choices (US — DAA) or youronlinechoices.eu (EU — EDAA). Opting out does not stop ads from showing; it stops them from being personalized.
More information about how Google uses information from sites that use Google services is available at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Children’s privacy
This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The site contains reference information about minimum operating age and supervised-minor rules so that parents and guardians can look those rules up — it is not a product or service for children themselves. If you believe a child has provided personal information through a direct email to us, please contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights — EEA / UK (GDPR) and California (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or California, you have certain rights regarding personal information relating to you, including the right to access the information we hold about you, to request correction or deletion, and to object to or restrict certain processing.
Because the atlas pages do not collect personal information directly, in practice the data we may hold about an individual user is limited to (a) short-retention server access logs and (b) any email you have sent us directly. To exercise your rights or to ask what is held, email [email protected].
California residents under CCPA / CPRA also have the right to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information (which under California law includes some cross-context behavioral advertising). To opt out of personalized advertising on this site, use the third-party ad-vendor links in the previous section, or send your request to the privacy address above.
External links
Atlas pages link out to state DNR sites, statute portals, and other public references. Those destinations have their own privacy policies, which we do not control. We recommend reviewing the privacy policy of any site you visit through a link from this one.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site evolves — for example, when an analytics provider is added or removed, or when a new ad partner is introduced. Material changes will be reflected in the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
