State DNR & OHV agency directory — call the state, not Google

Last updated: 2026-05-29

When you need to confirm a registration cycle, an out-of-state reciprocity quirk, or whether last year’s trail-pass stickers rolled over — you call the state. This directory pairs each US state with the single agency that actually handles ATV / UTV / OHV permitting (DNR, DMV, Game & Fish, Parks & Recreation — whichever runs the OHV program in that state), with the public phone line, the OHV program URL, and separate links for sticker purchase and out-of-state-rider reciprocity confirmation where the agency publishes them.

When DNR pages move, the canonical record stays here — each row mirrors the same agency URL carried on the per-state atlas page at atvref.eversources.app/state/{slug}. Tap the state name to open the full state page with the registration, helmet, age, and reciprocity matrices.

50-state DNR / OHV agency directory

50 states · sortable columns · 2026-05-29

Sortable by state, agency, or phone area-code. Filter by state name. Dashes denote no separately-published value: many state DNRs route public contact through a web form (no public inbox), use the same OHV-program page for sticker purchase (no separate URL), or fold out-of-state-rider rules into the main OHV page (no standalone reciprocity URL). The presence of a dash is not a data gap — it means the agency does not publish a separate channel.

How to use this directory

  • Confirm before you trailer. Call the destination state’s DNR / OHV program line and ask the three reciprocity questions: (1) does my home-state OHV registration get recognised, (2) do I still need a nonresident trail-pass sticker, (3) what proof do I need to carry. The per-state page on this site is current as of the last review date shown — but riders who are about to trailer should call to confirm current-season specifics, particularly nonresident sticker cost and where to pick one up.
  • Pre-trip sticker purchase. Where the agency publishes a separate sticker / permit URL (Sticker column), buy in advance — most state DNRs sell nonresident trail passes online with same-day printable receipt. Carry the printout plus your home-state OHV registration during the ride.
  • Title / registration disputes. Call the agency listed for the destination state, not your home-state DMV. Title-transfer rules and bill-of-sale recognition vary by issuing-state — see Title from a bill of sale for the four state pathways.
  • Annual renewal reminders. Most state DNRs let you sign up for an email or text renewal alert on the OHV program page. Riders who own machines in multiple states should subscribe to each state’s renewal reminders — cycle dates do not line up across states.
